A Week in Nature

This past week and a half, I actually had the opportunity to get away from the bay and stay in Northern California in this super small, cute, and quaint town called Nevada City. It was nice to spend some quality time with the future in-laws and taking care of them. Nevada City is different – it’s like another world out there – which is oddly exactly what I needed.

I grew up in the bay area and will always love and appreciate it for what it has to offer – from bomb bay area food, lots of diversity, etc. But, I definitely needed to get a change of scenery. I am grateful to have a two bedroom spot in Inner Richmond where there is a plethora of bomb-diggity Asian food just a few blocks away. Also, blessed to have the Golden Gate Park a block away to get some nature in during quarantine. But, I feel like I’ve gotten too much of the city or should I rephrase that and say too much of my apartment.

Therefore, this little getaway was really nice, refreshing and almost unsuspected. Nevada City on average was in the high 70’s which is my prime temperature and my fiance’s cat, Mo was just living it up – always being outside on the patio just soaking up the rays – like I’ve previously said, the sun just does wonders for me and my happiness. If you’ve ever seen the movie, WALL-E, I am literally WALL-E when he utilized his solar panel to refuel.

Nevada City just has way less people which makes going outside way easier and less stressful and irritating. I feel like in the city — yes, people may be more respectful and conscious about wearing masks more often, but man is it hard to just walk around. When walking in the city, I always have to try to be socially distant and walk onto the street or cross the street to avoid people and feeling like I am one of the only people that is mindful of that. While in Nevada City, you have a whole street to yourself. It’s just so nice to not have to over think – literally just walking.

On another point, Nevada City is also just a great gem because you can be in nature with all this different foliage – manzanitas, pine trees, etc. While on the other hand, you also have these amazing rivers and numerous lakes just an hour or two away which makes summers AMAZING and allows for residents to have no need for a pool in their backyard because mother nature just provides. But, don’t be stupid – don’t litter, take out what you bring in, and keep mother nature beautiful. It was just amazing to be in nature more and away from buildings and man-made things.

With how many Zoom meetings people may be on, Netflix binging, etc.- get in nature. Turn off your electronics and do a mini-electronic detox.
