Start of a Journey!

Hello everyone! I am Amelia and the face behind the Thanxamelion blog. I am starting this blog to create a safe place for people to gather and take the time to make themselves a priority. I want to empower people to live their best lives by focusing on both mental and physical health.

During this bizarre quarantine time, there has definitely been a major shift in my life as I’m sure there has been in yours as well. I unfortunately got laid off in mid-March and have been on the job hunt ever since and like many others have had to tap into unemployment benefits, having my feelings of self-worth tied to my job title and salary, etc. The job search is definitely a job in itself, but a lot of people don’t talk about the struggle and just post the “I got my dream job” photo which is super unrealistic and very disheartening for others that are in the same boat. But, I’m here to be real. My job search still continues and I had to take a few days off from searching as it was getting to me – I was burning myself out trying to apply to anything and everything, connecting with people on LinkedIn for advice or referrals, I was losing my self confidence — I was losing myself.

Now, don’t get me wrong I was definitely staying busy – working out, taking online classes (both for my career and for personal interests), trying new recipes, netflix binge watching, etc. But, I am a very task oriented person and I couldn’t figure out if I was doing things to keep busy and cause I liked to check things off my list or if I truly enjoy doing some of these activities. I have recently implemented asking the following questions to myself and others at times – “How is your heart, body, mind, and soul?” – to reflect on how you are completely feeling.

I am still not perfect, but if quarantine has taught me anything it is the importance of focusing on both your physical and your mental health in order to thrive and live your best life — that is why I started this blog – not only for myself, but to encourage others to do the same and be a part of this community. I’m thankful, grateful, and blessed to start this journey with you and encourage you to share our stories in the comments below.
