New Job! Who this?!
I started a new job mid-March – crazy to think that I was able to and lucky enough to quick and find a job so quickly. I am definitely thankful, grateful, and blessed. But, do not be fooled – it was a lot of hard work as well with the emotional rollercoaster of interviewing and moving on in the process vs. getting denied.
What I’ve noticed thus far in this new role?
- Although I went through multiple interviews, it’s hard for people to know the detail and depth of your work experience in a matter for a 30 – 60 minute interview. It is up to you to utilize your voice in order to show your value to the team – even if it is after the fact that you accepted the job. It’s also a great reminder to practice and fine tune your 5 min intro pitch in interviews to help illustrate your worth from the beginning.
- Not everyone does work the same. I know it seems simple right? But, every organization has their own processes and own office politics of why they do things a certain way. As a newcomer, it can be super frustrating when things seem to be inefficient, but again it’s just how things work at a certain organization. You can chip away at inefficiencies later when you build up your brand at this new company.
- I’m sure this is more of a personality trait, as it’s the same with any new role I take on but I am just super eager to start creating value and showing my worth and actually doing work vs. just learning the ropes. But, this eagerness can be difficult on the psyche because I am putting unrealistic expectations on myself when things just take time.
Overall the onboarding has been great and very smooth. If anything it’s harder to get to know people in the organization due to remote work, but nothing like a few zoom intro chats to get you through that and lots of time referencing the org chart! If you are looking for a new job, don’t give up! I know it’s been a hell of a year, but your dream job is out there! You just have to imagine it and the pure happiness it’ll bring you and go get it!
